24” Clark Refractor Telescope
The 24” (0.6m) Clark Refractor was built in 1896 by Alvan Clark & Sons and is still used today for public observing at Lowell Observatory. This storied telescope was used to find the first evidence that our universe is expanding and to map the Moon in the 1960s in preparation for the Apollo Moon landings.
Pluto Discovery Telescope
The 13" (0.3m) Lawrence Lowell Telescope was the instrument that Clyde Tombaugh used to discover the dwarf planet Pluto in 1930, and so it is also called the Pluto Discovery Telescope. After two unsuccessful searches for "Planet X" by Percival Lowell himself, this telescope was built to conduct a third search, resulting in the discovery of Pluto on February 18, 1930.
